Leith Walk Primary pupils take to their bikes
Leith Walk Primary pupils, their parents and teachers can now get cycle mad … thanks to their PTA and The Bike Station, who have teamed up to promote cycling in the school.
Already they have:
- organised two servicing and repair days when Bike Station mechanics spend the day in the school playground fixing bikes – 58 were brought in one day
- provided 75 low-cost, refurbished bikes to pupils, teachers and parents, together with a bike lock, helmet and a Spokes map of cycle paths in Edinburgh
- arranged cycle training for pupils and parents
- set up cycling proficiency through the Active Schools co-ordinator
- organised family cycle rides on the North Edinburgh cycle paths.
Parent Shian Randall said: “This is a great opportunity for our family to start cycling without huge cost. Living in such a built-up area, it is important to know that cycle paths are quite easy to get to.”
- All P5, 6 and 7 pupils in Edinburgh will soon receive a cycle map leaflet showing where there is to go locally and some good advice on days out.
