Save the Children receive £15,000 from recycling company

Edinburgh residents taking part in household recycling schemes have helped raise cash for a children’s charity.

The UK’s leading international children’s charity, Save the Children, was delighted to receive a cheque for £15,000 in January from Abitibi Consolidated Recycling Europe (ACRE), the recycling company who run the scheme on behalf of the Council.

Blue and red boxes are collected on alternate weeks for the recycling of materials such as glass bottles, cans, newspapers, textiles and cardboard.

For every tonne of material collected for recycling through the scheme, £1 is donated to Save the Children.

Material collected from wheeled paper points on Edinburgh streets has also contributed to the total raised.

More than 6,500 tonnes of multi-materials have been collected for recycling since the scheme started in June 2005.
