Volunteers from community groups and schools across Edinburgh witness the fruits of their labour

In the autumn of last year, 840,000 spring bulbs were planted across Edinburgh – many of them by community groups and schools.

Pupils from Towerbank Primary School helped residents from Coilesdene House plant 40,000 crocus and daffodil bulbs, while at Muirwood Park, 30 volunteers turned out to plant bluebells and daffodils.

You should now be seeing the fruits of their hard work as colourful spring displays pop up across the city. High School Yards Nursery and Carrick Knowe Primary School are two of ten schools involved in the great daffodil display competition. Each school received 200 free daffodil bulbs, which were planted up in the classroom.

The resulting displays will be judged and winners announced at the Royal Caledonian Horticulture Society Flower Show held at the Botanical Gardens on 25 and 26 March.
