Fresh Start Initiative aids the with basic furnishing needs of new tenants
New Council tenants who have been homeless very often have nothing to furnish their new home.
But thanks to the Fresh Start Initiative, 2,000 new tenants every year can now get essential items for free.
Fresh Start was established seven years ago by church members who wanted to do something practical about homelessness. Congregations and individuals throughout Edinburgh donate household goods or money. Volunteers at two Fresh Start warehouses and the Edinburgh Furniture Initiative make the items up into six different packs containing crockery and cutlery, pots and pans, cleaning materials, towels, curtains, bedding and linen.
Every year more than 6,000 packs are distributed to new tenants and other individuals in need via local furniture projects.
If you have any good-quality unwanted goods, why not consider donating them to this reuse project?
