Hard-hitting advertising campaign to tackle problems with fast food junk

A new hard-hitting advertising campaign is set to tackle Edinburgh’s problems with fast food litter.

The strapline ‘Your Litter. Your Problem’ puts the onus on the individual to take action and not to litter.

The Keep Edinburgh Clean Campaign has launched its new-look billboards and bus adverts across the city to target the late-night revellers who drop pizza boxes and chip wrappers in our streets.

The refreshed campaign is taking a tougher approach on litter. The key emphasis of the adverts is on the legal implications of littering.

While previous campaigns have used humour to get the message across, this year we’ve used images of fast food litter strewn on Edinburgh’s streets and shaped to represent the £50 fine.

The Council has 32 Environmental Wardens patrolling the city to help enforce anti-litter laws by fining people when necessary for dropping litter, cigarette ends, and for dog fouling offences.

From July 2005 to July 2006 the Wardens issued 589 litter fines.

They also work closely with fast food retailers to help them prevent people dropping litter outside their premises.

Alongside the advertising campaign, Keep Edinburgh Clean will continue to coordinate educational and promotional events that will run throughout the year to help reduce littering in Edinburgh.
