Great Edinburgh International Cross Country

After taking part in the Great Winter Run, why not stick around to watch the pros in action.

The world’s best international distance runners will once again visit the Scottish capital for the cross country meeting that has gathered the reputation for being the best non-championship cross country in the world.

Some of the best athletes in the world, including Kenenisa Bekele, Tirunesh Dibaba, Paula Radcliffe, Liz McColgan and Haile Gabrselassie have taken part in the live BBC televised event in the past.

So why not start 2007 with your best foot forward and take part in the annual Great Winter Run in the spectacular surroundings of Holyrood Park, Edinburgh on Saturday 13 January.

The 5km road race will start off the 2007 programme of Great Run events with an expected 2,000 runners on the start line hoping to get rid of those excesses from the Christmas and New Year festivities.

The course starts and finishes on Queens Drive near Dynamic Earth and is suitable for runners of all abilities aged 14 and over.

The first half of this scenic course involves a slow climb (on tarmac road) giving runners some superb views as they reach the top of Arthur’s Seat.

The second stretch of the route continues downhill around the other side of Arthur’s Seat before turning back along the home straight along Queens Drive.

As with every Great Run event, your finishing time will be chip timed, you will receive an exclusive event t-shirt, plus a souvenir finishers’ medal and goody bag.

Tesco Junior Great Winter Run

The day starts with the Tesco Junior Great Winter Run, a 2.5km road run for children aged eight to 13 years. All juniors will receive a timing chip for an accurate time, exclusive Tesco Junior Great Run t-shirt (posted with their race number before the event), souvenir finishers’ medal and goody bag.
