Save the Children benefit from donations from the red and blue box recycling service
A children's charity is reaping the rewards of the city’s ever-increasing commitment to a greener lifestyle.
Save the Children recently landed a welcome donation of several thousand pounds thanks to the red and blue box recycling service, pictured above.
For every tonne of material recycled through the kerbside collections, £1 is donated to the Save the Children charity by Abitibi Consolidated Recycling Europe (ACRE), the company that runs the service on behalf of the Council.
During 2006, £16,400 was raised through the scheme, which collects cans, cardboard, glass, paper and textiles.

The service, making it easier for people to recycle, has been in operation since June 2005 and 112,000 residents are currently on the collection routes.
And remember, we can all do more to become even better recyclers and to spread the Reduce, Reuse, Recycle message, using the red and blue box collection scheme or leaving your garden waste out to be collected.
