Portobello High School are the new Scottish Champions in the Young Consumers of the Year Competition.

The school overcame stiff competition from three other teams – Holy Cross High School from South Lanarkshire, Linlithgow Academy and Dingwall Academy.

Mark Melrose, Calum McKenzie, Dennis Henderson and Jamie Henry won by nine points from Holy Cross at the event.

Both Portobello and Holy Cross will now go forward to represent Scotland at the UK final in June.

Teams entering Young Consumers are tested on a range of consumer-related topics, such as environment and social responsibility, money and credit, food and drink, health and safety, as well as legal and consumer matters.

The aim of the competition is to make the participants fully aware of their responsibilities and rights as consumers, and to give them essential life skills as they prepare for the world of work and study.
