Get up and go hosts a range of events for the city's older residents - don't miss out!
Growing older in Edinburgh can present great opportunities. Just ask a 67-year-old hammer-throwing former head teacher and a man who has reclaimed his mobility and independence after two wheelchair-bound years.

Both were nominees at this year’s Get up and go awards. The awards recognise those over the age of 50 who are an inspiration to others as well as organisations that work to challenge stereotypes, encourage participation and raise the profile of older people as citizens of Edinburgh.
If you are over 50 and want to get involved in social activities or get fit and healthy (some activities are for over 60s) then the new Get up and go programme could have something to interest you.
It provides a wealth of information on a huge range of social, educational, cultural and sporting opportunities, and has lots of useful information to help you get more active.
The 2007 programme will be launched on International Day of Older Persons on 1 October – a free event to which everyone is invited.
Edinburgh Leisure and Get up and go are organising the Health and Wellbeing Event at Meadowbank Sports Centre from 10am to 4pm.
There will be dozens of stalls, demonstrations and taster sessions, from Tai Chi and seated exercise to computer skills and health testing. There is bound to be something to interest everyone.
Many organisations and companies who provide quality services to older people will be there to showcase what they have to offer. The event will be acknowledging and supporting the WHO (World Health Organisation) Global Age-Friendly cities guide and check list to which Edinburgh contributed.
So, if you want to come along on the day and be involved we would be delighted to see you!
