The scouts pitch in to help celebrate 100 years with flowers
This year the Scout movement celebrates its 100-year anniversary.
To commemorate this momentous achievement the Scouts have been given their very own floral display in Princes Street Gardens.

The 3rd Portobello Scout group got their hands dirty this summer to help the gardeners plant the new design. The Scouts’ Motto ‘Be Prepared’ was planted along the top of the display, with the centenary details planted round the clock.
Scouting began in 1907 when Robert Baden-Powell, a decorated soldier, held the first ever camp at Brownsea Island in Poole, Dorset. Following the success of the camp and the publication of Scouting for Boys, Baden-Powell’s worldwide bestseller, the scouting movement is now a worldwide phenomenon.
Did you know?
The planting of the floral clock takes place twice a year, once in summer and once in winter, featuring a different subject each time. Past designs have celebrated The Queen’s Golden Jubilee, The Scotsman newspaper’s 175th anniversary and Robert Louis Stevenson. It’s ALSO an award winning display, gaining gold medal at Chelsea in 2003.
