Make-over unearths interesting archaeological finds
Archaeologists have been on site during the year-long makeover at the Grassmarket and have already unearthed some interesting objects – including layers of cobbles and a complicated system of stone drains.

Beneath these cobbles, deposits from before the 16th century were also discovered. A well-preserved buckle was found, as well as other objects.
Meanwhile, the hours for vehicle loading and unloading have been changed for the north section of the Grassmarket, which will be pedestrianised for a portion of the day.
The change was made after objections that businesses needed access for loading goods later in the day.
The original plan was to have loading access between 6.30am and 10.30am. This has now been changed to 8pm to noon.
