The next generation of Edinburgh girls help rejuvenate the city's tree population
Edinburgh Girl Guides, Rainbows and Brownies were invited to Braidburn Valley Park in January to help start the planting of hundreds of cherry trees.

The young people were joined by veteran Girl Guides who, 73 years ago, planted 400 cherry trees in the park to commemorate the Silver Jubilee of King George V in 1935.
Now, with the ornamental trees reaching the end of their natural lives, the Council, with help from Friends of Braidburn Valley Park, are starting to replace all the trees.
Most of the work will be carried out by Council staff, but the Girl Guide Association has helped plant the first replacement trees.
This tree planting is the start of an ongoing programme to replace and rejuvenate the trefoil feature (the logo of the Girl Guide movement). This is just one of many projects ongoing in the Green Flag award winning park.
Karen Young, chair of Friends of Braidburn Valley Park, said: “The cherry trefoil planted by the Guides in 1935 is an outstanding feature in Braidburn Valley Park.
“Generations have enjoyed the spring blossom and autumn colours.
“The Friends of Braidburn Valley Park are delighted that the Guides planted more cherry trees that will be enjoyed by generations to come.”
