Targets for 2008 are well within reach

Thanks to the efforts of city residents, Edinburgh is well on its way to meeting its recycling targets for 2008.

• During 2007, residents contributed to a whopping 20,000 tonnes of garden waste collected through brown bins, 1,262 tonnes of packaging collected through on-street packaging banks and 4,223 tonnes of paper in on-street paper banks.

• It was also a great year for the red and blue box kerbside collection service, with 15,804 tonnes of material collected for recycling, while the list of items which can be taken to Edinburgh’s Community Recycling Centres is ever increasing.

• The city’s recycling rate is currently 28.15 per cent, but with more residents committing to reduce, reuse and recycle all the time, we’re well on our way to meeting the 2008 target.

• Let’s get it sorted and make this year another great year for recycling in Edinburgh!
