New proposals seek to reward owners of greener vehicles
What do you think about reducing the price of residential parking permits for those with less-polluting cars, while increasing the prices for more-polluting vehicles?
Under a current proposal, about 66 per cent of current resident permit holders would pay less for permits, 14 per cent would see no change and 20 per cent would pay more.
This autumn, we will begin a three-month public consultation to find out your thoughts on this scheme.
The scheme wouldn't raise any more money for the Council. Its aim is to encourage residents to buy smaller, energy-efficient vehicles and is part of various actions to meet European reduced air-pollution targets.
This would also have the knock-on effect of providing more on-space parking space in our crowded city streets.
Under the proposal, households with more than one vehicle would pay more for second permits. As at present, there would be no charge for parking permits for disabled people with Blue Badges.
Two English councils have introduced similar schemes but this would be the first in Scotland.
