City wins ethnic award

A Council plan which helps older people who are part of ethnic minority communities scooped the first prize at a European awards ceremony held in Germany recently.

Edinburgh’s City for All Ages – Today and Tomorrow was selected by the Active Ageing of Migrant Elders across Europe (AAME) project.

Today and Tomorrow is part of the Council’s larger City for All Ages plan for older people.

This award-winning part of the plan brings together representatives from the Council, NHS Lothian, and the voluntary and commercial sectors with a common aim – to remove the discrimination and barriers that people from ethnic minority communities may face.

The prize of €2,500 will be used by Edinburgh to build on the excellent equalities work already established in the city for its older citizens.
