What you need to know

Red and blue box and blue bag collections

  • There will be no red and blue box collections, or blue bag collections on 25 December and 1 January.

If your collection falls on either of these dates, please continue to collect your materials for recycling and they will be picked up on your next collection day.

If you have extra materials for recycling and cannot wait for your next collection date, there are recycling points across the city, at supermarkets and in tenement areas, or see below for details of the Community Recycling Centres.

Community Recycling Centres

  • Edinburgh’s four Community Recycling Centres will be open every day between 10am and 4pm, EXCEPT 25 and 26 December and 1 and 2 January.

These are located at:

  • Braehead: Craigs Road
  • Craigmillar: Old Dalkeith Road
  • Seafield: Fillyside Road
  • Sighthill: Bankhead Avenue

Please note that liveried vehicles and commercial waste are accepted at Seafield Community Recycling Centre only.

Rapid Response

  • There is no Rapid Response Service on 25 and 26 December and 1, 2 and 3 January.

Refuse collection

  • Please note the following changes to refuse collection:

Scheduled Day - Substitute Day

Thurs 25 December - Sat 27 December

Fri 26 December - No change

Mon 29 December - No change

Tues 30 December - No change

Wed 31 December - No change

Thurs 1 January - Sat 3 January

In the event of operational delays, such as bad weather, please leave your bags or bins out and we will collect them as soon as possible.

Please make sure your bags or your bin are on the kerbside for 7am.

Public Toilets

  • All toilets will be closed on 25 December. Only the following toilets will be open between 10am and 6pm on 26 December: Nicolson Square, Mound, West End and St James.

Only the following toilets will be open between 10am and 6pm on 1, 2 and 3 January: Nicolson Square, Mound, West End and St James.

Separate arrangements will be in place for Edinburgh’s Hogmanay.
