A centre for sustainability
In brief
Edinburgh has been named a ‘city of the sustainable future’ by a New York based institute.
The Ethisphere Institute included Edinburgh on its list of 20 cities that could become global sustainability centres by 2020.
The Institute recognises cities that have demonstrated a strong commitment to long-term sustainability without sacrificing economic potential and quality of life.
The assessment looked at a broad range of information including Edinburgh’s environmental record, transport and housing, health education, arts and culture, and economic and business development models.
The recognition is a boost to Edinburgh’s commitment to making sustainability a priority.
