Brought the house down

September 21 marked an important step in the Council’s ongoing regeneration work in North Sighthill as Broomview House was demolished.

At 11am, explosive charges reduced the ten-storey building to a pile of rubble within seconds. The “blowdown” was watched by onlookers outside an exclusion zone, which was set up around the site to ensure public safety.

Broomview House was first opened in 1967 and was home to 84 properties. The building had been lying empty since October 2007 after residents were rehoused to make way for regeneration plans.

The planned £60 million redevelopment of the area will include new housing, shops, library, park and a community centre.
