Straiton park and ride success

In brief

STRAITON Park and Ride opened on 5 October and already it is showing success in helping to cut down on the amount of cars coming in from the south.

The number of people using the facilities has slowly increased since the opening.

There are 600 parking spaces available at Straiton, along with a terminal building run by Lothian Buses’ staff with a waiting area, CCTV and toilets.

Parking is free and buses 47 (daily), X47 (Mon-Sat) and 67 (Mon-Fri) provide regular links to the city centre, with extra X47 buses at peak times on Monday to Friday.

Other park and rides have already proved to be huge successes. 100,000 cars used Ingliston and Hermiston park and rides in their first six months of operation, after opening in September 2005.

Straiton Park and Ride is accessed off the A701 (to Penicuik), just south of its junction with the A720 City Bypass to Penicuik, where new traffic signals have been installed.
