Security project for stair safety

In brief

Residents in the city centre are benefiting from a partnership approach between the Council and Lothian and Borders Police in tackling stair security.

In response to complaints from residents within Bread Street and the surrounding area about antisocial behaviour, the City Centre Neighbourhood Community Safety Team and Police have been completing surveys and providing information, advice and guidance to residents living in tenements.

So far, residents in 53 stairs have benefited from this service which includes crime prevention advice, liaison with private landlords/residents over repairs such as door entry systems, removal of bulk items, bikes being chained to railings, etc.

The joint team is committed to working in partnership with residents and landlords to improve the quality of life and tackle antisocial behaviour within the city centre.

Please do not hesitate to contact the Community Safety team on 0131 529 7090 if you or your neighbours could benefit from this initiative.
