We spent an afternoon at the East Neighbourhood Office finding out what services you use, what you think of the customer service, what could be improved and what you think the big issues are in the community.

John O’Keefe, Murdoch Terrace

John applied for a new house closer to his son and found the service excellent. “I’ve got one already,” he said. “It only took a few months.”

What bothers him most in the community are the roadworks. “I feel they need to be more co-ordinated.”

Alistair Russell, Murrayburn Park

Alistair was frustrated after delays helping a friend try to get HMO approval for a flat. But he was impressed with changes in the neighbourhood.

“I used to stay in this neighbourhood,” he said, “and it’s improved – the housing and the new school.”

Thomas Brown, Craigmillar

Thomas was at the office paying his Council Tax and enjoyed a chat with the staff, who obviously knew him. He said the service was very good. “If I write this thing wrong,” he explained, waving his tax notice, “they correct it and write it for me again.”

He was happy with the neighbourhood generally, but said “some families get a bit out of control. I’m not really complaining but it could be controlled a bit more.”

Barry Ralston, Greendykes Road

Barry was in to see the Neighbourhood Support Team. He said: “I haven’t had any problems, the service at the office is okay.”

What bothers him most in the neighbourhood is “noisy bikes running around during the night”.
