Mothers’ pride
Three busy Craigmillar mums are the proud owners of certificates marking their success in achieving SQA Communications qualifications.
Jillian Armstrong, Debbie Wilkinson and Joanna Whyte le
ft school with no qualifications. They met each week at Castleview Community Centre, which shows how community-based partnership work allows adult learners to achieve success.
Jillian said: “I feel more confident and know I can do it. I was always asking for homework and doing it with the kids. Them seeing me doing it meant they had to too!”
Joanna said the course was “really informative, and doing it at Castleview meant I could do it while the bairns were at school next door”.
Debbie added: “I’m ready for the next one. It was good to have a tutor who was never on your back, but helpful.”
As for the final challenge of essay writing at this level, there was no shortage of ideas when it came to subjects the women felt strongly about.
Head-lice, self-harm and centralised maternity services were tackled with an assurance that delighted their tutor.
