A lot-ment praise
Bridgend Allotment was singled out for praise by the judges at the Beautiful Scotland Awards, when Edinburgh won the coveted Best City Award.
“Bridgend Allotments is an example of a well-run allotment scheme,” said the judges. “It is encouraging to see the number of friends groups that Edinburgh is fostering for many of its parks and green spaces.”
Bridgend is Edinburgh’s first totally organic allotment site, which opened in June 2006 at Craigmillar Country Park. The 58 individual plots are all occupied and there is already a substantial waiting list.
