Dare to be pink!

Nine-year-old Rebecca Miles is spreading the news that her school mate Lewis Shortel is absolutely in the pink…along with the entire population of Victoria Primary School!

Ten-year-old Lewis happily accepted the dare from Outlook to wear a neon pink wig for our picture in return for a donation to the school’s “Dare to Wear Pink Day” during October – National Breast Cancer Awareness month.

Staff and pupils raised a fantastic total of £800 by donning pink wigs and pink togs. All classes had fun dares to carry out, while parents and local people were invited along to enjoy pink cakes at the coffee morning. There was nail and face painting, a tombola with pink prizes and pupils got together in the playground to form the shape of a breast cancer ribbon.

Head teacher Laura Thomson said: “The Pupil Council decided to support this event since so many families are affected by breast cancer.

“We’ve been overwhelmed by the support from the local community and parents and had a fun day raising money for a very worthwhile cause.”
