Flats still available at pioneering care home

A pioneering new housing development for people over 60 has opened at the Waterfront, Granton… and there are still vacancies.

Madelvic Square has 14 self-contained flats for rent and provides housing support and personal care, as well as the latest Telecare technology – an alarm system that monitors movements reducing the need for systematic checking and giving staff time to engage more creatively with tenants.

The flats are entirely self-contained, but there is a communal dining room where lunch and a light evening meal are provided, and there is even a roof garden with views onto the Forth.

Working in partnership with Cairn Housing Association, NHS Lothian and Family Circles Care Ltd, the Council is committed to providing a real alternative to moving into a care home. This offers a great opportunity for older people who wish to maintain their independence despite ill health or increasing physical or mental frailty.

The level of care can be increased or decreased as needs change thus maximising independence and a feeling of security.

Half the flats have two bedrooms which means flexibility to meet the needs of a range of people.
