Getting ahead under the bonnet
In brief
South Edinburgh mum Ruth Fry is heading for success…under the bonnet.
After bringing up three children, Ruth is now a full-time student on an automotive maintenance and repair course. “I’m loving every bit of it!” she said.
Ruth joined a Women onto Work course in South Edinburgh, which gave her work experience in a local garage. She decided she wanted a career in Automotive Engineering and completed the CLAN-funded Adult Returners’ Course at Jewel and Esk College in June. This earned her a full-time place on the Automotive Maintenance and Repair Course at Jewel and Esk.
Ruth, who lives at the Inch, had not enjoyed school, “skived off” a lot and left at 14.
But she described the Adult Returners’ Course as: “The best thing I’ve ever done. It’s like I’m getting my life back!”
