It's a Xmas wrap!

What do you want for Christmas in South West Edinburgh?

Of course, a safe community is number one on the festive wish list and there are co-ordinated plans in place to make this happen.

The South West is the largest neighbourhood area with 22 per cent of the city’s roads in Edinburgh. Environment manager Stewart Farquhar keeps them running smoothly.

“Over Christmas we’ll be making sure the roads are well gritted,” said Stewart. “Street lighting is also important and you can make sure broken lights are replaced promptly by phoning Clarence on 0800 23 23 23.”

The Council works with other service providers to make sure we offer the best service we can. Lothian and Borders Police is a key partner of the Council, especially at this time of year, working with Community Safety to keep younger revellers safe.

Trading Standards staff work with liquor retailers to prevent sales to under-age drinkers while Community Safety officers patrol regularly, both with the mobile CCTV van and in unmarked cars.

South West Neighbourhood successfully applied for £36,000 from the Youth Matrix Fund. Watch out for new youth activities in 2009!

These are just a few examples of the people working together to keep your area safe and well during the holiday season.

As for our new Outlook wraps, we urgently need your views. Do you like the local wraparound? Do you want us to make it permanent? Send in the freepost form on the back page or e-mail us and you could win a £50 Scotmid shopping voucher.

Extra copies of the wraps are being distributed to local libraries and Council offices. You can also visit www.edinburgh.gov.uk/outlook
