Firrhill is just the place to find real thrills
Firrhill High School was recently host to the Go For It Lifestyle Fair, an event designed to encourage pupils to take part in clubs and activities in their areas.
Invited to the fair in the school’s state-of-the-art sports facilities were P4-P7 pupils from Bonaly, Colinton, Pentland, Longstone and Oxgangs primary schools as well as all Firrhill pupils.
The event was supported by Pentlands Neighbourhood Partnership and 40 organisations and clubs took part, including Pentland Community Centre, Scouts, Girl Guides, Edinburgh Leisure, Tesco and Air Training Corps.
Children tried new sports and activities with taster sessions from Destination Judo, Angela Watson’s Dance School, Swanston Golf, Colinton Bowling Club and Firrhill Hockey Club. ‘Have a go’ sessions offered pupils and parents a chance to test their swing, their bowling arms or their hockey aim!
With a turnout of 300 pupils and parents, it is hoped the fair will become a regular event, with the next one scheduled for summer 2009.
