It's a Xmas wrap!

What do you want for Christmas in West Edinburgh? You told us that you want more local news and that’s exactly what you are getting in this special wraparound edition targeted at where you live.

And, of course, a safe community during the festive season is number one on everyone’s wish list.

In West Edinburgh there are co-ordinated plans in place to keep the community safe and happy:

Joint Council/Police spotter patrols with CCTV vans will target hot spot areas.

The Neighbourhood Action Unit will increase patrols and road checks to detect drink driving and educate motorists to the dangers.

The School Littering Initiative developed by the West Environmental Warden team will focus on schools and surrounding grounds – an incentive scheme will reward the school with the most improvement.

During the school holidays, the Environmental Warden team will patrol empty buildings to deter vandalism or attempted break-ins.

Trading standards will work with residents groups to protect people in cold calling zones – education and awareness will focus on the importance of ensuring your home appears occupied at all times

There will be an increase in Police patrols, especially around licensed premises.

As for our new Outlook wraps, we urgently need your views. Do you like the local wraparound? Do you want us to make it permanent? Send in the freepost form on the back page or e-mail us and you could win a £50 Scotmid shopping voucher.

Extra copies of the wraps are being distributed to local libraries and Council offices. You can also visit www.edinburgh.gov.uk/outlook
