Where the money goes...

The budget delivers support for Edinburgh n these tough economic times, as well as investing in frontline services. Care for the city’s most vulnerable people is at the heart of the budget as well as ensuring that the Council is financially prepared to deal with the challenges ahead.

Caring for our older generation:

  • £10 million for two new care homes
  • £1.196 million for older people’s care, especially over-85s
  • £1.627 million for adults with physical and learning disabilities

Looking after our children:

  • £1.4 million for vulnerable children in our care
  • £350,000 for children with physical and learning disabilities
  • £1.6 million for fostering services

Educating our children:

  • £4.1 million for Towerbank and Corstorphine primary schools
  • £6 million to replace Portobello High School
  • £1.5 million for initial design phase of James Gillespie’s High School

A safe, green, clean, attractive city:

  • £1.2 million on pitches, pavilions and play areas
  • £2.2 million to improve community environments
  • £17.5 million on flood prevention

Getting around:

  • £69 million over four years for roads and pavements
  • £130,000 to promote and support cycling
  • £13,000 to increase bike parking racks

Affordable housing:

  • Creating more affordable homes (£36.1 million over three years)
  • £33.4 million to improve Council housing
  • Continue to spend £3.6 million on housing regeneration

Culture:

  • £5.7 million for the Usher Hall refurbishment
  • £275,000 for festivals, museums and archives
