Boxing clever

SOMETIMES it can be a pain trying to remember which recycling box or bin will be collected next from your kerbside, but the Council has just the solution.

Since spring 2008, the Council has been working with greenboxday.co.uk to provide a free e-mail reminder service to residents, when and what bins or boxes to put out for collection.

The service automatically reminds residents up to three days before the next collection date and is especially useful in Edinburgh with the alternate weekly collections for recycling, and summer and winter collections for garden waste.

All you have to do is go to the website, type in your postcode to register and follow the on-screen instructions. Then, hey presto, regular free reminders, recycling tips and information are automatically sent to you each week.

It’s secure, too, as any information provided to the site is completely confidential and is not passed on to third parties.

The e-mail service is not only free to residents, but also doesn’t cost ratepayers a penny and is provided free to the Council.

And if you’re on the move and prefer text messages, there is a paid-for text version of the service available so the reminder can also be sent directly to your mobile phone.
