Granting a social life
A SOCIAL club in a sheltered housing complex has been awarded a community grant from the City Centre Neighbourhood Partnership.
Croft-An-Righ Social Club is run by the residents of Viewpoint Housing Association sheltered housing complex in Abbeyhill.
The funding supports a full calendar of social events to help wheelchair users have as active a lifestyle as possible.
The club arranges events and activities, including theatre visits and outings.
It has been going for ten years, but it’s only since last year that wheelchair users have been able to take part in organised social events.
Chairman of the social club John Fanning is proud of the success they’ve had.
“One lady hadn’t left the complex for seven years but she was over the moon to be able to get out and about,” he said.
Last year the group organised trips to the Playhouse to see Seven Brides for Seven Brothers and Mary Poppins, bus trips to Stirling and Fife and a garden party with a live brass band.
