Success in making our streets cleaner
In your neighbourhood, 87 per cent of the streets are clean, as measured in the latest CIMS (Cleanliness Index Monitoring Survey) in December 2008.
We have been targeting various hotspots to improve street cleanliness, particularly around Leith.
The North team has recently had extended use of a litter press, compressing what is collected to allow more material to be uplifted.
The team has also been using some of the additional investment for a new cleansing crew and is currently recruiting to increase staffing levels over the spring.
This will help us develop barrow beats in the Leith wards and, in turn, will allow changes to other routes to deal with hotspots, and provide better street cleaning operations across Forth and Inverleith wards.
But we need the public’s help to make it to 100 per cent.
Please bin all your rubbish, even the cigarette ends.
If you spot something in your neighbourhood which needs to be fixed, please let us know, either on 0131 529 5050, or by e-mail on northteam@edinburgh.gov.uk
In April, we are supporting National Spring Clean 2009, so if you want to help, please register with Keep Scotland Beautiful first and we will provide all the local support.
