SOUTH

SOUTH CENTRAL

THE South Central Neighbourhood Partnership includes the Braid Hills to the south, Morningside, Merchiston, Marchmont and Bruntsfield, stretching to Lauriston in the north east.

 The people within Meadows and Morningside are healthier than average and crime levels are lower than the Scottish average.

 The area contains some significant areas of green space with Bruntsfield Links in the north and Hermitage of Braid in the south east.

Southside and Newington lies to the south of the city centre and covers the areas to the south west of Holyrood Park including Southside, Newington, Sciennes and Prestonfield to the north and the Grange, Blackford and Blackford Hill to the south.

The area is adjacent to Holyrood Park and large grassed areas around Prestonfield. The Meadows are on the north west and Blackford Hill is in the south.

People within Southside and Newington are healthier than the average with 93 per cent in good or fair health. Crime rates are slightly higher than the Scottish average.

LIBERTON AND GILMERTON

THE Liberton and Gilmerton Neighbourhood Partnership covers the

area from Dalkeith Road and the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh to the east and the city bypass to the south.

 Residential areas include Liberton, Burdiehouse, Gracemount, Gilmerton, Moredun, Ellen’s Glen and Nether Liberton.

There are pockets of lower housing standards and health risks as well as crime rates much higher than the national average within Gracemount and Moredun.

Across a range of issues – no qualifications, people between 16-18 not in full-time education, pupils’ performance, absence from school – there are significant challenges to be overcome in parts of the area.
