Ringing the Changes
Each year the Council asks residents for their views on their neighbourhood.
What do you think are the best things, what needs to be improved and what do you think about the services we provide?
In September and October 2008, 482 residents of South Central and 396 residents of Liberton/ Gilmerton took part in this survey, with the following results:
°nine in ten were satisfied with their neighbourhood as a place to live (89 per cent)
°almost three quarters were satisfied with the way the Council manages their neighbourhood (71 per cent)
°almost a third felt they were able to influence decisions that affected their neighbourhood (30 per cent)
°almost two thirds felt their neighbourhood was a place where people from different backgrounds could get together (61 per cent).
Residents were asked to rate the performance of 27 services and issues managed by the Council in their neighbourhood. The biggest changes in the way people viewed services were:
°satisfaction in South Central increased most with road maintenance from 53 per cent in 2007 to 67 per cent in 2008
°satisfaction in Liberton/Gilmerton decreased most with facilities for young children, from 29 per cent in 2007 to 20 per cent in 2008.
These residents said the following things were best about the areas or should be a priority to help improve quality of life.
