Community Spirit for Moredun

When thieves broke into Moredun Library the first thing they went for was Libraries 4 U – an area for young people, filled with DVDs, music and game consoles.

The loss of the equipment could have been devastating for the young people who enjoy spending time in their library. But thanks to community spirit, all the goods were returned and complete.

On the early morning of 19 November, the concierge on duty at Moredun multi-story noticed the strange behaviour of two young men outside the library.

After studying CCTV footage, the concierge phoned the Police to report a possible crime.

When Police watched the tapes they identified the thieves, obtained a search warrant and solved the crime within a matter of hours. All the libraries goods were returned to the library.

The Libraries 4 U project was first launched in Moredun Library in April, providing improved facilities in consultation with young people.

After the introduction of this teen zone, the library has seen an increase in visits and borrowing of library items, improvement in young people’s behaviour and a positive response from the local community.
