Ringing the Changes
Each year the Council asks residents for their views on their neighbourhood.
What are the best things; what needs to be improved and what they think about the services we provide.
In September and October 2008, 481 residents of South West and 464 residents of Pentland took part in this survey with the following results:
°almost nine in ten were satisfied with their neighbourhood as a place to live (86 per cent)
°two thirds were satisfied with the way the Council manages their neighbourhood (67 per cent)
°more than a third felt they were able to influence decisions that affected their neighbourhood (37 per cent)
°seven in ten felt their neighbourhood was a place where people from different backgrounds could get together (70 per cent).
Residents were asked to rate the performance of 27 services and issues managed by the Council in their neighbourhood.
The biggest changes in the way people viewed services were:
°satisfaction in Pentland increased most with facilities for teenagers (9 per cent in 2007, 25 per cent in 2008)
°satisfaction in South West decreased most with provision of adequate shopping areas (77 per cent in 2007, 68 per cent in 2008)
These residents said the following things were best about the areas or should be a priority for improving the areas.
