Schools in the South West neighbourhood have received funding for an exciting new initiative as part of the Scottish Governments Climate Challenge Fund.

Schools in the South West neighbourhood have received funding for an exciting new initiative as part of the Scottish Government's Climate Challenge Fund.

Piper was formally established as a sub group of Currie Community High School Parent Council in September 2007. In June 2008 Piper received kick-start funding from the South West neighbourhood partnerships community grant funding.

Parents and pupils will get involved in competitions and challenges to reduce energy consumption and to play a part in tackling global warming. Environmental audits will be carried out on homes, there will be competitions to see who can get their gas and electricity consumption down the lowest, food-growing and transport initiatives, and projects involving the Scouts.

The Climate Challenge Fund was set up to help Scottish communities make a real difference by significantly reducing their carbon emissions. £27.4 million has been set aside for 2008-2011.There are lots of things we can do as individuals to reduce our carbon emissions but if we act together by working as communities we can do even more.
