WEST

ALMOND

THE Almond Neighbourhood Parternship encompasses a large area in the north west of Edinburgh and contains a number of smaller and quite distinct communities, each with a strong local identity.

These include Cramond, South Queensferry and the surrounding area, Ratho Station and Newbridge, Kirkliston and Gateside, Davidson’s Mains and Silverknowes.

Key landmarks in the area include the Forth Rail and Road Bridges as well as the coastline along the Forth Estuary which is of major environmental significance.

Almond is of key importance for future economic development, occupying a strategic location in the Central Belt, close to major centres of population and within commuting distance not just of Edinburgh, but also of a number of locations further west and into Fife.

There are firm proposals in place for enhanced rail links and connections with the Edinburgh Tram Network.

Future developments around Edinburgh Airport and the replacement Forth Crossing are likely to have a highly significant impact on the physical development of the area.

WESTERN EDINBURGH

THE Western Neighbourhood Partnership covers Drumbrae, Clermiston, East Craigs and Gyle, Corstorphine, Carrick Knowe, Saughtonhall, Murrayfield, Roseburn and Ravelston.

The area is predominantly residential, but has key industrial, business and retail sites, notably at the Gyle.

Western Edinburgh has above average levels of employment and, on average, residents have access to better housing and experience better health than elsewhere in Scotland.

Western Edinburgh is home to a number of key Scottish and Edinburgh landmarks including Corstorphine Hill, Edinburgh Zoo, the Scottish Rugby Union Headquarters and National Stadium at Murrayfield, the former Deaf School, Donaldson’s College and the Gyle Shopping Centre.
