A Place Fit to Live in
Each year the Council asks residents for their views on their neighbourhood – what do you think are the best things, what needs to be improved and what you think about the services we provide?
In September and October 2008, 400 residents of Almond and 416 residents of Western Edinburgh took part in this survey:
- nine in ten were satisfied with their neighbourhood as a place to live (92 per cent)
- three quarters were satisfied with the way the Council manages their neighbourhood (73 per cent)
- almost half felt they were able to influence decisions that affected their neighbourhood (49 per cent)
- two thirds felt their neighbourhood was a place where people from different backgrounds could get together (64 per cent).
Residents were asked to rate the performance of 27 services and issues managed by the Council in their neighbourhood.
The biggest changes in the way people viewed services were:
- satisfaction in Almond increased most with adequate shopping provision, from 61 per cent in 2007 to 89 per cent in 2008
- satisfaction in Western Edinburgh decreased most with library services, from 83 per cent in 2007 to 71 per cent in 2008.
These residents said the following things were best about the areas or should be a priority for improving the areas.
