Big clean up gets BIG results
FRIDAY 13 February proved to be an unlucky day for the ‘Big Clean-Up’ in South Queensferry and surrounding areas – it was cancelled due to bad weather.
But this turned out to be a blessing in disguise, as the event has been rescheduled for an even bigger and better two-day event on Friday 3 and Saturday 4 April.
900 people had originally signed up for Friday 13, but organisers now expect to get more than 1,000 people participating on the new dates.
Environmental group GreenFerry is co-ordinating the clean up in partnership with the Community Police Neighbourhood Action Unit, the Council’s West Neighbourhood team and Park Ranger, Iwan Thomas.
Local primary schools, Queensferry High School, nurseries, businesses and local organisations will come together with individual residents to target litter hot spots.
Tesco in South Queensferry is supporting the event by providing lunch for the adults and putting out a team of staff to clean-up their grounds on the day.
A graffiti team will also be sent out on the day to tackle known locations. Environmental Wardens will work alongside local schoolchildren as part of an educational programme and duty Police for the day will stop to lend a hand in between call-outs.
