In brief
Top archers aim for Edinburgh.
When Edinburgh hosts the Archery World Cup Final in 2010, it will be the first UK city to do so.
The World Cup Final will take place in September next year in East Princes Street Gardens. There will also be a series of ‘come and try’ events to encourage more people to take up the sport.
The Council, EventScotland, UK Sport, Archery GB and the Scottish Archery Association have all been in discussions with FITA, the world governing body for archery, to bring the event to Edinburgh.
Tram plans for busy Festival
EDINBURGH's tram project has identified a number of measures to be taken to ensure the success of the festivals this summer.
Measures include minimising noise and disruption, opening up sections of Princes Street to pedestrians and identifying parts of Princes Street that might be used by festival performers.
It has been agreed with stakeholders and retailers that tram track laying work should continue on Princes Street during August, allowing the famous street to reopen in time for Christmas.
A pledge to arts and culture
A survey has been carried out in Edinburgh to find out how city residents can get more involved in sporting and cultural activities.
The ASC Edinburgh (Access to Sport and Culture) Pathfinder Project canvassed the views of culture and sport partnerships and organisations, plus more than 19,000 residents, to look at current good practice in access to culture and sport and to determine a way to increase participation in future.
The process uncovered 94 per cent support for developing a ‘pledge’ for organisations and partnerships to remove barriers hindering people from participating in sport and culture.
The pledge will be developed for a launch this autumn.
