Does somebody you know have Get Up And Go?
Older people enhance our world in many ways, but they often do not get the recognition they deserve. Here is your chance to change all that.
Is there an older person in your community whose physical fitness inspires you? Do you know of someone who gives up their spare time to act as a volunteer to encourage older people to follow a healthier lifestyle? Or perhaps there is a group or organisation that is striving to open up new opportunities for older people, helping them to lead a more active or meaningful life?
If so, now is the time to nominate them for a Get Up And Go Award.
Get Up And Go is an activities and opportunities programme aimed at people aged 50 and over, particularly those who may find it hard to get involved in activities. It was launched in 2002 and provides details of social, educational, sport and leisure opportunities currently running throughout the city.
These biennial awards offer the opportunity to recognise individuals, charities, voluntary groups or public sector/commercial organisations from Edinburgh, who have successfully promoted the principles of Get Up And Go during the past two years.
The categories for nominations are:
- raising the profile of older people as citizens of Edinburgh
- ensuring inclusion of older people in Edinburgh
- creating opportunities for older people in Edinburgh
- challenging the stereotypes of older people in Edinburgh
- encouraging the participation of older people in Edinburgh
- improving the links between generations.
You can nominate a person, a group or an organisation in one of these categories.
Please ensure that you give as much information as possible to support your nomination, as this is vital to the judging panel’s decision.
Nominations are open now and the final date for submission is Friday 3 July. The awards ceremony will be held on Wednesday 22 July. Previous winners of a Get Up and Go Award will not be eligible for nomination in the same category this year.
