your city Centre, your views

In May and June a series of events took place throughout the city centre to give those who live, work and visit the area the chance to offer their views

These events concluded in the ‘Your City Centre, Your Views 2009’ community day held in the Assembly Rooms on Thursday 4 June.

As last year’s event was a great success, there were calls to hold another event this year.

“Listening to the views of the community is essential to the work of the City Centre Neighbourhood Partnership,” said Alan Dean, partnership development officer.

“We constantly seek to hear the opinions and to find out what issues matter to those living, working and visiting in the city centre.

“The city centre holds a unique position as its residents are outnumbered greatly by those who visit the area to work, shop, or enjoy its facilities.

“To get accurate and balanced views about the area, representatives from all these groups need to be listened to.

“By doing this we can find out what people want and work with our partners in order to make this happen.”

The Neighbourhood Partnership went on a ‘walkabout’ around the city with community council members, who pointed out exactly what they wanted to be improved.

“This gave us first hand experience and knowledge of what the immediate issues are for those who live in the area,” added Alan.

Partnership members went along to the Central Library, Princes Street Gardens, Tollcross, Southbridge Resource Centre, the farmer’s market and a number of other places to hear what local people had to say.

We’ll provide feedback on the results of all this activity in the next edition of Outlook.
