Wynd your way back

The Old Town Festival from 15-28 June is a celebration of the culture and heritage of Edinburgh’s Old Town.

It opens with the launch of the learning space at the Museum of Edinburgh.

The museum will also host two House Histories events as part of the festival:

At home with Mrs Doig:

18, 20, 21 and 23 June at 10.30am-1pm, 2pm-4pm

Travel back in time and meet Mrs Doig, pictured right, an upwardly mobile merchant’s wife who dreams of a home in the New Town.

Find out about Edinburgh life in the 1780s, learn the etiquette required by polite society and be outraged at the seedy goings-on in the closes and wynds.

Chairman’s tales:

25-28 June at 11am, 12pm, 2pm and 3pm

Join Donald Black, purveyor of the city’s most comfortable sedan chair, for tales and gossip about the people of Georgian Edinburgh.

Who better to help guide your way through the warren of closes and wynds and the colourful characters who lived there?

You can also take part in the Chairman’s Challenge, test your knowledge of Old Edinburgh and win a prize.
