Night owls streets ahead
A new delivery of street cleaning in the city centre has been introduced to minimise traffic disruption during the tram works.
Night-time collections for trade and domestic waste have been a success as cleaning teams alter their shift patterns. Residents and businesses on Princes Street and up to Moray Place and Heriot Row now present their waste from 7pm and collections start at this time, seven days a week.
The city centre team is constantly identifying, planning and delivering new ways of working to cope with the challenges that affect the area.
It is important to minimise the disruption to traffic flow during the day and help keep the area moving quickly and efficiently.
At the same time, with no waste bags left outside properties overnight, the potential for wildlife such as foxes and seagulls to tear them open and scatter the contents around has been reduced, leading to a much cleaner and pleasant environment.
Feedback from residents on the new arrangements has been positive.
