Woods action group

First there were Wags, and now CWAGS. But this has nothing to do with marrying into football – CWAGS is the Craigmillar Woods Action Group.

This new group is made up of residents, volunteer groups and park users and with the guidance of countryside rangers they will help conserve and enhance Craigmillar Castle Park.

The group has already set to work on improving the park by litter picking, branch clearing and the planting of wildflowers.

Craigmillar Castle Park, which boasts panoramic views of the city, is popular with runners, walkers and dog walkers as well as being regularly used by schools.

It attracts lots of wildlife – from buzzards and kestrels to rabbits and field mice.

Moles and foxes can also be found as well as a varied collection of native trees and plants, which in turn attract a wealth of insects and butterflies.

While it is the perfect spot for walkers and wildlife enthusiasts, children can also enjoy the new adventure play park which opened in November last year.

The group meet fortnightly on a Sunday between 2 and 4pm at the opening to the Bridgend Community Allotments on Old Dalkeith Road.
