Maisie’s new adventures… at school!
Maisie, the kilted kitten from Morningside, and her creator, Aileen Paterson, joined other celebrated Edinburgh children’s authors at Leith Primary to take part in the school’s first Author and Writing Festival.
The all-day event, part of the school’s ongoing drive to improve and celebrate creative writing, saw the authors spending time with all nine classes, from primary one through seven.
Primary one pupils were treated to a fun mix of Maisie’s adventures, some never before seen in print. Primaries three and four were joined by Margaret Forester, author of ‘The Cat who decided’, and primary six heard from prolific illustrator and author John Fardell. ‘Hox’ author Anne Marie Allen worked with classes from primary six and seven and the latter also enjoyed a visit from Keith Gray, author of many books for teenagers.
Head teacher Alasdair Friend, said: “Leith Primary was delighted to welcome such a diverse and skilled group of writers to work with the children.
“We hope that staging our own little book festival will inspire the children of Leith to further improve their own writing skills and even consider becoming authors themselves one day.”
