Hit the decks!

Young people in the Gateside area of Edinburgh will have the opportunity to learn how to DJ in a number of sessions over the summer months.

Gateside Tenants and Residents Association and the Neighbourhood Partnership arranged a consultation with kids in the area to find out what kinds of activities they would like to see in their neighbourhood. Not only did they decide on improving sports facilities with the new multi-ball park as part of the Neighbourhood Improvement Programme, but top of the list was to take DJ lessons on the decks.

This is set to become a reality with money from the Youth Matrix fund made available to provide the necessary equipment.

“After the consultation, we wanted something that both girls and boys could take part in and we came up with the idea of DJ lessons,” said Fiona Alexander, chair of Gateside Tenants and Residents Association. “Hopefully it will take place over the summer at the local community centre.”
