And pupils welcome new schools
Craigroyston and Holyrood open their doors
Edinburgh’s two newest schools, Craigroyston Community High School and Holyrood High School, opened their doors to pupils in August.
The new Craigroyston Community High School has been built on Pennywell Road, a short walk away from its previous location.
The new school is at the heart of the community, catering for up to 600 students as well as accommodating adult learners and providing other community facilities including a 25m swimming pool, exceptional sports facilities and a crèche.
Holyrood High School has a bright open atmosphere with the school designed to make the most of its location with spectacular views over to Duddingston Loch and Arthur’s Seat.
Both schools have been designed with state-of-the-art teaching facilities and interactive whiteboards in all classes – in place of traditional blackboards – moveable walls, allowing classes to be opened up for larger group work and all-weather pitches which are available for community use.
Holyrood High School also has its own prayer room and chapel.
The two schools have been built as part of Edinburgh’s £180 million PPP project which has already seen two new primaries (Bonaly and Juniper Green) and a secondary (Broughton High School) open their doors to pupils.
The final three secondary schools in the project (Forrester High, St Augustine’s High and Tynecastle High) are due to open after the Christmas holidays.
